"I’ve always been attracted by landscapes, both rural and urban, and when I started to paint more seriously in the 1980s, these became my subjects of choice.

For many years I worked as a commercial photographer, a calling that I like to think gave me an ‘eye’ for a good view although the subject matter in those days was usually the choice of my then clients.

My work is now mostly the result of exploring localities that resound and that give me the emotion and atmosphere that I’m looking for in my work. Living in south-east London there is no shortage of subject matter of all kinds, both nearby and further afield.

Although I occasionally work in watercolour, I find that the flexibility and depth of colour in oil paint enables me to create the results that I’m looking for.”
